Its capital, Santiago de Compostela is the final destination on the Way of Saint James, the famous pilgrim route. For this reason alone it is worth visiting this region in Green Spain.
You’ll love its landscapes full of green wooded valleys, and its amazing beaches. All along the length of its coastline, bathed by the Cantabrian Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, you’ll find areas of spectacular cliffs like those on A Costa da Morte, or the incredible Islas Atlánticas National Park.

A Coruña
It is located in the region of Galicia in northwest Spain. Its Costa da Morte (Coast of Death) is an area of important marine ecosystems, with steep cliffs, dunes and fishing villages with traditional lighthouses and beaches. The characteristic inland landscape features mountains and green valleys. Highlights include nature areas such as the As Mariñas Coruñesas e Terras do Mandeo biosphere reserve, the Fraguas de Eume nature reserve, the Corrubedo dune complex and the Carregal and Vixán lagoons.
Lugo
Located in northern Spain, in the north of the region of Galicia. Its capital is the city of Lugo, whose Roman wall has been awarded the World Heritage designation by the UNESCO. The province is home to strongly contrasting landscapes, and has both mountain areas and a coastline with wonderful beaches like Las Catedrales.
Ourense
It is located in the south of the region of Galicia, in northwest Spain. The area is rich in hot springs, and there are numerous places where travellers can sample the therapeutic properties of these thermal waters by bathing in the open air. It is an area of green and leafy landscapes with outstanding natural spaces such as the Área de Allariz Biosphere Reserve, and the nature reserves of Serra do Xurés, do Invernadeiro and Serra da Enciña da Lastra.
Pontevedra
The province is in the region of Galicia, in north-west Spain. Within just a few kilometres, visitors can go from mountain landscapes to the coastline along the Rías Baixas estuary. It is full of beauty spots and viewing points overlooking the estuaries, including the outstanding Islas Atlánticas National Park and its magnificent beaches. It is well worth discovering the treasures of the Romanesque Route, to see the traditional Galician mansions known as pazos, and visiting places in Pontevedra such as Marín, with its megalithic monuments; Vilaboa and Poio for their rock engravings; and La Guardia, Sanxenxo, Cambados and Illa de Arousa, all with fabulous beaches. Not to be missed is the capital, Pontevedra, and its historic quarter.
