Kalimera! Greece is one of the top ten destinations to visit for 2023! April’s weather is little on the cooler side, but so are the crowds. it was great to have the city and the islands all to ourselves without the summer rush. The beauty of Mykonos and Santorini is unique to no other island! White washed houses with a back drop to the blue Azure Mediterranean water, breathtaking scenery, spectacular sunsets and some delicious local food! Great for honeymooners!
My spiritual journey continued with another site marked off my list. A visit to the island of Patmos and the Holy Grotto of the Apocalypse. According to Christian tradition, three fissures (a symbol of the Holy Trinity) opened in a wall in the grotto, and St. John heard the voice of God, who granted him a series of visions of the future (revelations). This text became the book of revelations.
Crete is the largest of the Greek islands and a must here is to visit the Minoan Palace of Knossos – The 1st European Civilization! The Parthenon in Athens is one of those ancient monuments that one can never get enough of! Inaugurated in 438 B.C and dedicated to goddess Athena, it is one of the only Doric order temples built entirely of marble. The brand new Acropolis museum in Athens is a treasure chest of famous works of classical antiquity! Not to be missed by the history buffs.
A week in The Galapagos Islands was the most amazing trip of my life! This Archipelago of 13 large and 6 minor islands along with more than 40 islets is a living museum of evolutionary changes. Our home for the week was this amazing 130 ft, 16 guest yacht . We hiked on volcanic islands, snorkeled with marine iguanas, tropical schools of fish, sea lions and turtles, saw nesting Blue footed Boobies and Frigate birds, white tipped sharks and so much more. it was a surreal experience to be able to get so close to the wild life. We saw the mating ritual of the giant Galapagos Tortoises. These ancient creatures weigh about 500 pounds. Another place ticked off my bucket list!
The African Safari is one of the most unique experiences in all my travels around the world! From the Masai Mara to The Great Rift Valley to the Serengeti’s. Viewing all the big five’s and other animals in the wilderness was so thrilling! Enjoyed the night safaris too! The highlight of my trip was hot air ballooning over the Masai Mara followed by a bush breakfast! Can’t wait to go back!
